Devices That Should Connect to a Surge Protector
Some of the equipment that helps one enjoy his favorite activities in the home are the most vulnerable to damage from electrical surges. Conveniences in the kitchen and entertainment devices that one enjoys there and elsewhere are the most susceptible. The microwave, the computer and its peripheral devices, the DVD player and the television set and most sound systems are electronic devices. These are the devices that are vulnerable to severe damage, because they usually are unable to tolerate a surge in electricity.
Devices that contain components that are voltage sensitive are the ones that should receive some kind of defensive capability through a surge protector. Ordinary appliances draw a heavy amount of electricity, so they are likely safe in the event of a surge in electricity. Electronics use components that are different from those used in an oven, for example. One does not need a surge protector unless there is a possibility of damage to electronic parts as a result of an unexpected jolt of electricity.
Use of a surge protector may prevent extensive damage to delicate electronic equipment. It is designed to trap any surge that exceeds the voltage limits established for the internal circuits in computers, microwaves and other devices.
