Which Power Adapters Work on Portable Solar Cells?

January 5, 2012

Use a solar power adapter to change the gathered solar energy into usable electricity known as AC power. A good adapter also has a battery to store some of the energy when it is not in use, although the storage capacity is small and does not last very long. You can use it on small items, such as a cell phone or even your air conditioner. Your needs dictate the size and cost of the adapter and panels you buy.

Choosing the right solar power adapter means making a list of the items you need to charge when the power is out. For example, we want to keep our refrigerator and freezer cold as well as charge our MP3 players and phones. A 300 watt solar adapter with appropriate panels fits our needs perfectly, so I have decided upon the Wellsee WS-ACM300. We can place this in our basement and run it out the window to portable solar panels, providing all the power we need until the electricity is restored.

Doing your research is important when you decide to invest in solar power, and I am glad that I was able to find exactly what was needed. Knowing how much power you need in an emergency tells you the wattage you need for the adapter as well as how many panels you need to purchase. Make your list, create a budget and you can select exactly what is right for you.
